An English study in charcoal

The owner wanted a room with presence: a place to work, to receive visitors and to read in the evening. English country libraries offered the right vocabulary, rooms of paneling, leather, books and fire built for daily use. The study borrows that grammar without copying a period room. Proportions stay generous, ornament stays restrained, and the charcoal and cognac contrast gives the classic formula a sharper, more graphic edge. A lion artwork above the fireplace became the symbolic anchor. It sits on the main axis, so it is the first thing a visitor sees on entering and the backdrop to every conversation held in the room. Imperfection Design has no house style; the language of each project is drawn from the client. Here the owner's own sense of strength and calm set the tone, and every later choice was tested against it.

Cognac, art and warm light

Charcoal dominates, yet the room never reads as flat. Painted paneling, leather, velvet and textured plaster each reflect light differently, so a single dark hue becomes a layered surface. Johannes Itten's studies of contrast explain the effect: a color gains depth when texture, sheen and temperature change around it. Cognac leather on the tufted armchairs and the desk top brings the warmth. Antique brass in hardware and lamps adds small points of reflected light, and wrought iron in the chandelier draws a darker, finer line. The marble fireplace surround is the one pale, cool surface in the room, which makes the fire the natural center once the sun goes down.
